It's a moment of great celebration for Riserva Ducale, Ruffino's iconic Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG. The 2024 edition of the renowned Italian Wine Guide has once again honored Riserva Ducale with its highest recognition, the Tre Bicchieri Gambero Rosso. This marks the fourth consecutive year, further underlining its indisputable quality. Like most captivating tales, the story of Riserva Ducale has a rich background. In 1890, the Duke of Aosta visited Ruffino and had his first taste of this Chianti, which was carefully preserved in the finest barrels and opened only on special occasions. Impressed by its excellence, the Duke decided to reserve this wine exclusively for the tables of the Kingdom of Italy, an act of authority. It wasn't until 1927, 37 years after the Duke's visit and on the fiftieth anniversary of Ruffino's founding, that the company obtained the license to sell the "Duke's wine," as it had come to be known by everyone. The name was a tribute to its most distinguished admirer: hence Riserva Ducale, the Duke's selection. Riserva Ducale, today a symbol of the foundation of Chianti Classico, tells the story of our territory and its uniqueness.
